30th year of trading results in record business

Bedford Pumps Ltd, manufacturers of large submersible and conventional pumps to the water, waste water and land drainage industries, are celebrating a record-breaking year of orders as they reach their 30th anniversary of trading.

Based in Kempston, Bedford, the company, which currently employs 38 members of staff, has now outgrown its premises and is taking on an additional service and production facility in the town, ahead of a move to a brand-new purpose-built factory in 2019.

Bedford Pumps was formed in 1987 by prior members of the pump department at NEI (W H Allen) after the company closed their pump manufacturing facility within the town.  30 years on, following multiple retirements from key personnel, the company has a new management structure in place who intend to double the size of the business within the next few years.

This target, whilst ambitious, is certainly achievable for the pioneering company.  Their outstanding reputation and knowledge of the industry in which they operate has secured an order intake of £10M for 2017, a 100% increase from last year’s £5M order intake.

Bedford Pumps Managing Director, Neil Langdown, states: “Exciting times lie ahead for Bedford Pumps.  Whilst the past 30 years have provided the company and their employees with a steady source of orders, the drive is now in place to really push the company globally.”
